This catalogue commemorates the exhibition Force of the Fifties: Selections from the Albright-Knox Art Gallery, which presented the work of such abstract expressionists as Mark Rothko, Franz Kline, Philip Guston, and Joan Mitchell, with a view to relating their innovations to the art of today.

With essays by exhibitions curator Donna De Salvo and David Moos, and "Some Times," a helpful timeline of cultural, political, and historical events of the 1950s. The Wexner Center’s A Succession of Collections series highlighted significant twentieth-century art movements or trends and examined their links to contemporary art.
