Catch Air: Robin Rhode

This limited-edition (1000 copies) book accompanies South African artist Robin Rhode's first solo survey exhibition at a museum in the United States. Raised in Cape Town and Johannesburg, South Africa, Rhode gained recognition in the last decade as a highly original and intriguing artist. In works that begin with a combination of drawing and performance, he highlights the push and pull between the liberating force of the individual's imagination and the confines of media-driven stereotypes and received ideas of identity. Catch Air features 12 of Rhode's signature photographic sequences related to actions performed with drawings, several digital animations and films/videos, and an installation of sculptural objects. The book's clever design includes 8 oversize fold-out portfolio pages that fully document selected works, including the complete nearly 200- image sequence of Color Chart (2004-7).
