Biography

Monica Castiglioni was born in Milan. After she received her diploma in graphic design and attended a course in goldsmithery, she chose to dedicate herself to creating handmade jewelry. Her works have been showcased at the Gallery Loupe for Contemporary Art Jewelry (Montclair, New York), the Julie Artisans’ Gallery (New York), and at Pastec (New York).

She is also a photographer and has collaborated with the magazine Interior Design since 2005. Monica Castiglioni has never taken part in photo competitions. She has exhibited her photos for the Design Trust for Public Space, the Manichine series (2006) at Raphael Vignoli (Van Dam St.), and the Jaywalker series at the Milk Gallery (October 22, 2007).

In 1990 Monica Castiglioni and Natsuko Toyofuku founded the Anthias workshopstore in Milan. Their jewelry has gained international recognition and can be found at the following locations: MoMA’s design shop (since 1997); Dice&Dice in Japan (since 2002); Moss and Karkula in New York (since 2003); DePadova in Milan (2005); the Victoria & Albert Museum’s design shop (since 2006). Monica Castiglioni works and lives in New York and Milan.
