Details

David Shrigley is a Scottish artist who has come to prominence through his drawings, publications and sculptural works.

His drawings have a kind of throwaway beauty peopled as they are with monster children, idiots, aliens, bad parents and full of twisted lists and exchanges. Shrigley's books act as an index of his angst about modern living, his disappointments and his cynicism.

Drawing can be the most intimate of exchanges physically – the scratching of a pen on paper, the scale of the notebook, erasing and building an image. But it also acts as a cathartic action. Maybe not just for the artist but for the viewer as well. So in Shrigley's work he's also releasing something for everybody – tell us when we are not longer needed and we'll go. ‘Large Fancy Room Filled With Crap’ was going to be the title for his recent exhibition at the Hayward Gallery in London UNT it was changed to ‘Brain Activity’
